Electrolysis Vs. Laser
When should you choose laser over electrolysis? When should you choose electrolysis over laser?
Both Laser and Electrolysis are popular methods of hair removal and they each have their selling points. More importantly is the question at hand, which method is the right method for you?
Electrolysis is the only FDA approved permanent hair removal method, and is predominantly and almost always the best choice for facial hair. Laser is permanent hair reduction. Laser will reduce unwanted hair 80-90%. There will always be that 10-20% that the laser can’t get. A laser machine can not destroy white hair, blonde hair, or red hair. The hair must be dark for a laser to treat it. Whereas Electrolysis can treat every colour hair and permanently remove it.
The benefit of laser is the amount of hair it can treat at one time. With a head of 4 inches by 2 inches, we can treat someones entire legs with laser in 1.5 hours, and a half leg in 45 minutes. Electrolysis however, is hair by hair. I find, I can clear a women’s chin and upper lip, (who have excess hair growth on her chin, similar to a man’s growth,) in an hour. Often an upper lip alone may take 15-30 minutes with electrolysis. Electrolysis is primarily used on the face to permanently remove unwanted facial hair.
Laser and Electrolysis do not compete, they compliment each other. While it would not be practical to treat someones entire legs by electrolysis, after they have completed their laser session and have 10-20% hair remaining, it is a small job for electrolysis to finish off the remaining hairs resulting in 100% permanent hair removal.
